BioWare, recently acquired by Electronic Arts, has been confirmed by SEGA to be making a Sonic RPG, in the same vain as Baldur's Gate. BioWare are well known for making RPG games: These include Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and Mass Effect.

Not much is known about the game, except that it will be in a top-down style view, with cell-shaded graphics similar to exploration on Sonic Rush Adventure.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games [Wii, DS]

See that? Just your bog-standard, everyday Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games screengrab, right? Right. But wait a second there, bucko. Look closer, and what you’ll see is an out-and-out minefield of fresh, juicy information on the game that Sega reckons will sell, oooh, around a gazillion copies.

Indeed, through this solitary screen, taken by the furtive types at N-Europe, we can extract three new facts about Mario and Sonic’s RSI-inducing Olympics title.

One: The full and final line-up of characters, including the previously unannounced Vector (a croc from the Sega 32X title Knuckles Chaotix - obscure, much?) and Blaze (the cat from Sonic Rush for the DS).

Two: The new character groupings (titled Power Type, Skill Type, All-Around, and Speed Type).

Three (and most importantly of all): you’ll be able to use Miis in the game, meaning we can finally pit blobby, slightly deformed versions of Jessica Alba and Tara Reid against one another in the 100 metre dash. Run for our love, ladies!

Shadow the Hedgehog [Xbox, PS2, GC]

After months of speculation, Nintendo has finally confirmed the presence of Sonic in their upcoming 2008 Wii game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Sonic will join Metal Gear hero Solid Snake as one of the first two third-party characters to appear in Nintendo's hit fighting game series.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is expected to be released in 2008 (although rumours suggest 2007, but only in the US).

SEGA has raced out new details for plumber and animal-partnering title Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.

Finally the two famous characters will get to battle it in 20 authentic sporting events, each calling on the help of seven friends to make up the numbers.

Each character will have their own strengths and weaknesses, too. Bowser will naturally do well at shot put because he's a bit dumpy, while Sonic will run quickly in his buckled-up trainers. Mario and moustache will be an all rounder, as always.

You will be able to play against the computer or your friends at single matches, or string a number of events together in a circuit. On Wii, winning will involve replicating the various movements on the screen using the Wiimote and Nunchuk: pumping your arms to sprint or thrusting energetically to fence. Get bored of that and you can try to beat Mission mode made up of the toughest athletic challenges.

There's also a quiz mode and mini-games to unlock that uncover all the history of past Olympic Games - those ones where animals weren't allowed to compete.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will be released for Wii on 23rd November, and follow in Q1 2008 on DS.

Sonic and the Secret Rings [Wii]

Whereas the home console Sonic games may have recently lurched from one half-baked disaster to another (though we’ll concede that the Wii’s Sonic and the Secret Rings was quite a few shades better than the pancaked roadkill that was Sonic the Hedgehog), the blue blur’s recent appearances on the handhelds have been pretty darn good.

2005 saw the release of Sonic Rush on the DS, a Sonic adventure that returned to the 2D roots of the series, and that was all the better for it. The following year, 2.5D racer/platformer hybrid Sonic Rivals appeared on the PSP, and also fared well with the critics. And now, Rivals is going to see a follow-up produced, with Sega of America declaring today that Sonic Rivals 2 will hit the PSP this Autumn.

There’s a sprinkling of new additions for the sequel, with Sega promising tighter races, a Free Play mode that will allow players to sample courses at a slower pace, and an assortment of new power-ups, long-range attacks, and characters.

The old cast returns as well, along with 150 new collectible cards that open up new circuits and other such niceties. Best of all, however, is the news that Rivals 2 will support Game Sharing, meaning two of you can take part in six Battle mode multiplayer challenges, and all with a single UMD.

Jan 26 2007 - Sonic In Smash Brothers?

A few years ago, there were rumours that Sonic and Tails were playable in Super Smash Brothers: Melee. Well, they're back - but this time, they may have some truth to them!

Rumours are flying all over that Sonic may indeed be making an appearance in Nintendo's highly-anticipated upcoming Wii title, Super Smash Brothers: Brawl.

Super Smash Brothers: Brawl has already shocked gamers by announcing the inclusion of Metal Gear protagonist Solid Snake, which many believe clears the way for other third-party characters to join the mayhem. And in fact, Sonic topped a poll of the third-party characters which people would most like to see in the game.

We haven't confirmed anything yet, but if we get any more news on this issue, we'll let you know!

Super Smash Brothers Brawl is expected to be released for the Nintendo Wii during 2007.

Sonic Rivals, we think, should be out in Europe now. Why the 'we think'? Unfortunately, details of its release dates are a bit difficult to come by. Early December is the most popular thought on when it is supposed to be coming out, so if it isn't out already, it should be out soon this month.

Whenever its release date is, we can presume that it will retail for about £29.99 at launch.

For the PS3 fans out there who were excited about trying out Sonic's next-gen debut on day one, will have to wait just a little while longer. SEGA has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog has been delayed until later this year, causing the PS3 to lose another launch title.

The reason for the delay is because SEGA needs more time to incorporate downloadable content. But this also means that instead of having to wait for the content after the release of the game, your downloadable content will be available the same day you purchase the game.

We will have more information on Sonic's newest adventure soon.

It's turning wintery in the Northern Hemisphere, and it looks like we're in for a chilly one. So, we thought you'd like an update to soothe the soul.

As you probably know if you've been visiting us here at Sonic.Neo regularly (and you have...haven't you?), Sonic isn't exactly sitting back with his feet up in front of a nice cosy fire this winter. Oh no. He's busy.

Novermber the 17th is a big day for the Sonic Series. Europe and North America see the XBOX 360 release of Sonic's next-gen debut Sonic The Hedgehog, and North America also gets the PlayStation 3 release of the same game. Yes, we're dying to know what that silver hedgehog is all about as well. And no, we don't know yet.

And there's more high-speed action from the blue hedgehog in Sonic's debut on Sony's handheld PSP. Sonic Rivals is due out in the very near future - early December is the current buzz - and promises plenty of racing action. It looks like it's going to be taking advantage well of the sheer power of the PSP, so we'll see what it does soon.

And as if that wasn't enough, Sonic is also going off and adventuring with some Secret Rings or other in his debut on Nintendo's upcoming console, the Wii. Sonic And The Secret Rings is shaping up to be an amazing game, with a new type of storyline and innovative control system, taking full advantage of the Wii's technology. No-one has yet confirmed for us when it is due to be released, but some time in early 2007-ish seems to be the most popular estimate flying around at the moment. You'll know when we know...well, as soon as we manage to wrench ourselves away from the news for long enough to tell you, at any rate.

Of course, that means lots of work for us here at Sonic.Neo. But don't worry, we'll keep you posted on any developments!

SEGA has announced today that the voice of Princess Elise will be played by Lacey Chabert. You will most likely recognize Lacey Chabert from her roles in Mean Girls, Party of Five, and Not Another Teen Movie, but what a lot of people may not know is that she is no stranger to the world of voice acting. In the past, she has voiced characters such as Eliza Thornberry on Nickelodeon's once popular cartoon, The Wild Thornberrys, and had even been the voice of Meg Griffin on Family Guy when Mila Kunis wasn't on the show.

This marks the first time that a Sonic game has featured Hollywood voice talent, and it looks like SEGA is really striving to make this game something special.

Sonic the Hedgehog is set to be released on both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 mid-November.

Today, Sega of Japan announced that Sonic the Hedgehog for the Playstation 3 will hit Japan on December 21st of this year. The game is currently set to be released for the price of 6800 yen, which is the same price for current-generation games. For our readers in Japan who were worried that the price of Playstation 3 games would be more than normal can now rest at ease. Sadly, this will probably not be the case for North America or Europe, but we will just have to wait and see.

As of right now, there is no release date set for the Xbox 360 version of the game.

News which we received before the conference in Leipzig, Germany on Wednesday the 23rd of August indicated that "Sonic Wild Fire" was going to be re-titled to "Sonic and the Secret Rings".

Previously assumed to be "Sonic and the Secret Rings", it is apparently going to be entitled "Sonic and the Secret of the Rings". How that title is going to fit on the box cover in a font other than Kanji remains to be seen (that title could actually be a Kanji translation in itself), but as of now, that is the assumed title.

More news on this and, of course, other titles as we get it.

According to certain sources, SEGA has re-named its upcoming Nintendo Wii title, "Sonic Wild Fire".

The company is due to officially announce the new title of the game, suggested to be "Sonic and the Secret Rings", at the upcoming conference in Leipzig, Germany.

While no further information, beyond the standard conspiracy theories about EggMan and whatnot, has been released to anyone as of yet regarding exactly what these "Secret Rings" are or how they play into the storyline, it comes as some relief to a number of fans to know that the game will not be a completely re-telling of Arabian Nights, as had previously been widely believed.

Soon this Fall, gamers will be able to get their hands on a brand new Sonic title exclusive for the PSP, titled Sonic Rivals.

Sonic Rivals is a racing-platformer, in which yourself or a friend (through a local wireless connection) can duel it out in a variety of 3D worlds that each contain the type of 2D classic, fast-paced racing action you would expect from a Sonic game. Tracks will have plenty of insane loops and twists, but they will also feature various hazards set up by Dr. Eggman himself.

Not only will you have to worry about the traps, but you will have to worry about your fellow rival as well. Besides being able to jump ahead of your opponent or being able to hit them to make them slow down, each one of the four selectable characters will have a signature move they can use to gain advantage in a race. On top of this, there will also be plenty of power-ups placed along the tracks, with each power-up reacting differently based on whether you are in first or second place.

Sonic Rivals will also feature a rewards system which involves the player collecting trading cards.

More information soon.

During e3, SEGA revealed a Sonic game exclusive for the Nintendo Wii console. The game, entitled Sonic Wild Fire, features levels that requires Wii-mote action to navigate.

Sonic runs through levels as pillars spout through the ground and the Wii-mote guides him left or right. Classic moves such as the homing attack return in the installment in addition to new moves such as sidling across walls with spikes that pop in and out.

It's not entirely bad for PS3 and Xbox360 owners though, they'll also have their own Sonic game (tentatively titled Sonic the Hedgehog) and it's unconfirmed if that will also be coming to the Wii.

Good news all around for next generation console owners.

In an incredible turn-around of events, the hype building up toward the Release Dates of Shadow's game have apparently given way into severe criticism from various sources.

Even some of those who had, originally, argued against those who remained confident in the potential significance of the less-popular equation of "Shadow + Weapons = Disaster" are giving these opinions a second thought. Scores of lower than 50% for the game are being widely circulated around the Internet. The main area which such Reviewers are focusing on is (would you believe it?) Gameplay.

Cube IGN gives the game an Over-All Quality Rating of 4.9/10.

Meanwhile, a good many sources have praised Sonic DS for its efforts in "revolutionising" the Sonic Series. Aside from the fact that is is practically exactly what they said that Shadow The Hedgehog would do, they appear to be satisfied with it. DS IGN is among these sources.

After months of speculation, the final details regarding the European release of Shadow The Hedgehog have been confirmed.

#1: The game will be released on the Nintendo Game-Cube. Updaters on SEGA Of Europe's Web-Site apparently forgot to include the Game-Cube in their platform lists, prompting speculation that the game would only be released on the Play-Station 2 and X-Box in Europe.

#2: It will have an Age Content Rating of 12+ from the PEGI. Theories ranging all the way from 3+ to 16+ have been speculated for several months now, but the final Age Content Rating has been confirmed.

#3: It will be released on the 18th of November. Previous reports from various sources have claimed that the game, along with Sonic Rush, had been pushed back to the 25th of November. Most European releases, in Great Britain especially, take place on a Saturday, so this Friday release is unusual. Considering that this is only three days later than the North American release date, SEGA are really excelling themselves here.

After all Nintendo has done for SEGA's revival campaign after the Dream-Cast crashed down, SEGA are abandoning Nintendo - or so current reports would appear to indicate. This follow-up sequel to Sega And Nintendo Battle In The Skies Over Europe reveals that the battle has spread beyond Europe, and over to the rest of the globe. Time to stop spreading those rumours of Sonic appearing with Mario in the same game, then...

Behind the rejoicing at Yugi Naka's latest speech regarding Sonic's initial outing on the "next-next-generation" consoles lies a serious story of potential betrayal...

He describes the "rebirth of Sonic". So perhaps their ties with the Developers "Secret Level" are Sonic-related after all...?

Yes, some of you may resort to the hopeful and wishful thinking of "Nintendo still hasn't given third-party Developers licenses yet". That was true back when the so-called "Sonic 360" Title was announced, but now we know for a fact that at least one third-party Developer has received a license to create a game for the Nintendo Revolution (Super Smash Brothers III and Metroid Prime Revolution both have external Developers working on them).

Is there hope? Well, to be perfectly honest, yes, there is...if a rather distant hope.

Perhaps SEGA is waiting until Nintendo unveils their mysterious Nintendo Revolution Controller to the World before deciding on whether or not to bring Sonic to the platform? Hopefully so; because if they are not employing this strategy, and their minds are dead set against releasing the game on the Nintendo Revolution system, they will have betrayed their closest allies - who helped them to their feet again after their previous defeat.

What would be the implications of SEGA abandoning Nintendo? Well, for a start, Nintendo would need to find a new co-Developer for the F-ZERO Series, and fast. In actual fact, F-ZERO GX was hailed as being the strongest link yet between Nintendo and SEGA, since it and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle constantly make in-game references to each other. SEGA's apparent small role in Animal Crossing DS would need to be replaced, as well as SEGA's other roles in other Nintendo games.

So, for now, Nintendo fans will apparently have to return to Mario for their main hero, Ganondorf for their ginger-haired mad scientist, Captain Falcon for their speed and Samus Aran for their rather random Space-based strangeness, without the Sonic lot being on the scene. Will Sonic Rush be the last which Nintendo sees of the blue spike-ball? If SEGA are planning to abandon Nintendo just when it seemed possible that they could even merge, this could well be so. More of this grim news as I come across it...

If you have been following our news stories, you already know of the newly announced Sonic Riders game (if not, see news articles below). Well now, a video has been released of it depicting real-time gameplay.

The game is looking very smooth, and looks like it is trying to rival other popular games in the genre, such as the SSX series.

It shows various characters from the Sonic series racing through courses on their air boards, performing tricks and even dodging traffic.

This game looks like it may end up being a surprise hit when it is released in 2006 for the Gamecube, Xbox, and Playstation 2.

Here is a link to the video, which is taken from the Gamecube version.

Great news for Sonic fans! The "Next-Gen real time tech demo" is in fact, a brand new Sonic game being released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, sometime in 2006!

Sega made the announcement late Thursday night, also confirming that Yuji Naka (co-creator of the original Sonic) will be heading the game's development.

Yuji comments "We are proud to re-create our famous friend, Sonic, for a new generation of gamers on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.". He also states "With Sonic the Hedgehog, we have gone back to our starting point, more than 15-years ago, to reinvent the attitude and speed that made our hero a legend. The 'rebirth of Sonic' will offer an unparalleled sense of speed that is only possible using the processing power afforded by the new systems".

Excited? So am I. I personally cannot wait to see what they are going to be able to accomplish with the Next-Gen technology. Here are some screens to quench your thirst. It looks so much better than the video, does it not?

Why are my Sonic Senses tingling, and telling me that SEGA Of Europe has a bit of a grudge against Nintendo Of Europe? Probably because SEGA Of Europe's Games List mentions the Game Cube a grand total of three times. Read on to discover the vast array of additional reasons...

Let's face it; SEGA and Nintendo were destined to clash eventually. So why do it in the skies over the "Neglected Continent of Planet Video-Games"?

Take a look at the limited amount of information available on Shadow The Hedgehog on SEGA Of Europe's Web-Site. Aside from the fact that this source claims that the game will be released a week later than its previously-announced release date, no news of a Game Cube release of the game is present. The PlayStation 2 and X-Box releases are confirmed; but not the Game Cube one! A lone news report claims that the game may see such a release, but the rest of the ifnromation indicates exactly the opposite.

Now, Nintendo Of Europe claims that the game will be released on their console a week earlier than what the SOE crew says, on 18/11/05 (but then again, does anyone seriously trust what the NOE says about release dates anymore?). They also claim that Sonic Rush will meet the same release date. So, given that many people have lost faith in Nintendo Of Europe's reelase date judgement skills, they could easily potentially be incorrect - VERY incorrect, indeed.

Does that sound bad? Oh, it gets worse.

SEGA Of Europe's Web-Site contains NO DETAILS WHATSOEVER of a Game Cube release of Sonic Gems Collection, let alone a confirmed release date for it. The game will be released on the PlayStation 2 here, but no news of a Game Cube release is mentioned. Ironically, however, Game Cube-related magazines and Web-Sites are providing most of the news and previews on the game. How disappointed shall they be...?

Also having been apparently beaten down from 18/11/05 to 25/11/05 is Sonic Rush - but at least that game has been confirmed to be seeing a release over here.

  Sep 08 2005 - Next-Gen Sonic video

At E3 2005, behind closed doors where only a few people got to witness it, a real-time demo of a possible Next-Gen Sonic game was shown. Whether this demo is of an actual game or not, no one knows for sure, but we are hoping that more information will be given at the Tokyo Game Show. This could very well be a Next-Gen title for the Revolution, or even the 360 or PS3. Yuji Naka has expressed how much he likes the Revolution, and he even stated that he believes it will pleasantly surprise people when it is revealed, making Nintendo fans excited.

The link to the video is here.

While this may be old news to some, the majority of people have not seen it yet, because most major game sites, if any, never posted anything about it. This is probably because nothing is official yet, but for those that have yet to witness it, enjoy :).

  Sep 07 2005 - Sonic Riders announced!

Looks like Shadow the Hedgehog won't be the only Sonic related game to be released this year. As revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu Magazine, a brand new racing title, titled "Sonic Riders" will be released this Winter in Japan for the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox.

The plot involves no other than Dr. Robotnik, who has set up a racing challenge offering a Chaos Emerald to the champion. Of course, Sonic and the rest of the gang sign-up to compete.

In the game, you will control one of the many popular characters on Air Boards, and to stay in the lead, you will have to replenish your board with air throughout the course. This can be done by fllling it up at certain places on the course, or by doing tricks.

An element of Mario Kart has also been thrown into the mix. Characters can use the turbulence from other racer's boards to gain speed, or to keep their own board filled up with air (a free ride basically). But, be cautious, because the opponent can tamper with their turbulence, causing the free-loader some serious problems.

Many familar areas are going to be used as tracks, such as the Egg Factory, or Splash Canyon.

Expect more information on this game Friday, which is when Sega of Japan will be holding a press conference in Tokyo about the future of the Sonic series, and expect possibly even more info at the Tokyo Game Show.

Nintendo Of Europe (NOE) has confirmed the currently-projected release dates of the three upcoming Sonic titles on their systems.

Both Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic Rush will be released on 18/11/05 (which is about when we expected them, anyway), and Sonic Gems Collection will be released on 23/09/05; indeed, as usual, over a month after the North American release date.

With the American release date for Shadow The Hedgehog still looking to be in late November at the earliest, perhaps European players will finally see a SEGA game before the North Americans do. Someone could potentially change that at the last moment, just to be typical, but as it stands, there is a possibility that the game will actually be released in Europe before it is released in North America.

Sonic Gems Collection, released in North America on the 16th of August, is the next game in the Sonic compilation series. The games in the compilation were originally released on Sega's previous consoles. The most popular games in this collection of Sonic classics are Sonic the Fighters, Sonic R, and Sonic CD.

There's also games you can unlock that come from Sega's Game Gear. The games are Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic Drift 2, Tails' Sky Patrol, Sonic Spinball, Tails Adventures, and Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble.

The game is on sale in stores now in the United States of America and goes for an average, estimated (and also unbelievably cheap) price of $29.99. Now watch the price double up to £35 when it reaches Europe, just as it usually does...

NOTE: The rumours of this being a Sonic The Hedgehog game were a false alarm, and have been found since we Posted this Article to have no confirmation whatsoever behind them. The game will, in the vast majority of likelihood, not be a Sonic The Hedgehog title. Secret Level are working to develop a multi-format game with SEGA; however, this is probably NOT a Sonic The Hedgehog game.

The article has been left for you to be able to read the original reports.

Sega has recently teamed up with the developer called Secret Level who have developed games such as "Karaoke Revolution" and "America's Army". They've teamed up with Sega to make a new Sonic game which is believed to be like the Sonic Adventure series. The game has been anounced for two next gen consoles, The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. No information about it says that it will come out on a Nintendo system. The game should be similar to the upcoming Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Adventure series. The release date is predicted in 2006, a little while after the Xbox 360 and PS3 is released.

While we cannot confirm that the game will be a Sonic game, the use of the term "reborn" indicates a Series which has been dormant for quite some time, which suggests that it is likely to be a NiGHTS game or something else which has been dormant for a few years.

(Note: This does not in any way indicate that the game will never be released on the Nintendo Revolution console format. As of yet, companies cannot develop games for this system partially due to its later release date, and as a result the game will be announced for this system at a later time. Yugi Naka has already stated that all of the future Sonic Games will be released on Nintendo consoles, so this proves that the game will see a Revolution release, and has said that he will not abandon Nintendo. In fact, as can be seen in the first Page Linked to below, the company has alreayd produced material for the Nintendo Game Cube. The second Link below provides further proof that no product or platform ahs been announced yet.)

The very first shot's of Sonic Gems were released in E3, seems like Nintendo and Sega has improved the graphic system of the classic games and have added new mini-game's to it that weren't originally there for the orignal classic games of the Sonic franchise. It also showed a new way of playing multiplayer, updates to be held later when more information has been released.

Bad news for those with a PlayStation Portable or who are intending to buy one at its European release in September who were waiting with anticipation for "Sonic PSP" - it turns out to be a hoax.

GameSpot, the original publishers of the article regarding the alleged game, has withdrawn the article after it was found to be a hoax. The main reason for the doubts was the question "Why have SEGA only unveiled this game six months before its alleged release date?", which has cast serious doubts over the report's credibility. After sufficient pressure and proof that the game is a hoax, GameStop was forced to withdraw the game.

The game, allegedly due to be released Worldwide roughly alongside "Sonic DS" in November, was described as being of the "action-race-adventure" genre, and would supposedly feature graphics surpassing those of the PlayStation 2 game, "Sonic Heroes".

However, the claims are false. The proof is clear and the Site has been forced to withdraw its fake report. This does not in any way ascertain that Sonic and his fellow Characters will never see a game on the PSP, but makes it sound rather unlikely, especially with SEGA's close relationship with Nintendo.

The past Sonic Mega Collection which was released in November of 2002 was a game featuring the classic Sonic games such as the original, the second, the third, and more. Then Sonic Mega Collection Plus which was released on the PS2 and Xbox which featured the Game Gear games, two bonus ones, and a save feature.

Now Sonic Gems Collection has been annouced. Just like it's previous versions it will include a batch of classic Sonic games and some extras. Some of the games included aren't really known by Sonic fans or were demanded by fans to be included. The known games to be in it now are Sonic CD (Sega CD and PC) and Sonic the Fighters. (Arcade) Just like Sonic Mega Collection (Plus), this should include extras such as trailers and comic book covers from the comics. Also this would most likely have the save feature as well.

The game's predicted release is sometime at the end of this year or early 2006.

  May 08 2005 - Sonic Hits PSP

This month, Sonic was announced to be in the new DS console and its impact to the world was very huge. But what Sonic fans didn't expect, was a new Sonic game made for Sony's "PSP" neither of which star the blue gaming icon. PSP world wide players were shocked at this announcement and yet its one of the most anticpated comings ever made for the Sonic franchise. Gamespot has also revealed some more features as to the developing and the creators. GameStops announcement on it indicates that in the United States of America, it is intended to be eleased for $40.00 on the date November 1. 2005, is still unsure as of there is no artwork or game information other than the game's genre, which is of the all-encompassing action-adventure-racing type. A new portable Sonic game has made its first impact on PSP, PSP players all around the world, expect much from this game. Due to its release date, it is presumed to be similar to Sonic DS.

However, since this report was initially published, doubts have been cast over whether or not this game will really be released, particularly due to the short time-span between the initial report and the intended release date.
