more details 		Since this Section has apparently been causing some confusion for some people, I shall explain what this Section is about. While you have probably arrived here from a specific game-related area of the Portal, this section of the Portal covers Characters from the entire Series. Even if the Character is a "one-shot", such as Bio-Lizard, Bark and Black Doom, or a Character who apparently left the Series years ago, such as Mighty, Bean and Nack, they will still be included in this area of the Portal.

Whether you came here from a Page for Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic Heroes or Sonic Advance, you will still see identical content on these Character Pages.



HOW TO READ THESE SECTIONS

First, we have a general information section on the character, such as their name, aliases, age, species, first appearance, allies, enemies and so forth.

Following this is a description of the Character, their backgrounds, their roles in the Series, major storyline events, involvement in games, and any other information regarding that particular Character which we can come up with, such as Comic appearances, cameos in other Series', etc.

We conclude with a list of which currently-released games the character has previously appeared in (other than their initial appearance) and which have been fully released. The second list shows games which are either awaiting release everywhere or have only been released in some regions up to then.

Sonic The Hedgehog's History
By now, and with the help of the folks here at Sonic.Neo in their efforts to provide you with information on all things Sonic, you probably know who and what Sonic The Hedgehog is. If you don't, we've provided a handy character profile.

So, you probably want to know how Sonic got to this stage. Lucky we're here to help then, eh?

This is still a work in progress, but here's the first bit...



THE BEGINNING

1991. Only 9 years of the millennium left. Video-gaming has largely moved out of the bleeps and bloops of 8-bit games with 10-second soundtracks and sprites which cannot be outlined because the colour palette is too small. SEGA, with its 16-bit console, the Mega Drive (also known as the "Genesis" in America), wants to make a game that is going to take the gaming world by storm. So, a game with a new idea behind it is needed. A blue rodent who just happens to run at ridiculous speeds zooms through levels and concludes each by fighting a guy with a big moustache in a giant robotic contraption thing? It worked.

The game is an instant success. Delivering the combination of speed and platforming goodness never before seen in a platform game, it soon sells loads of copies and becomes much loved by many.
