[edit] Boss 1: Big Foot

Boss Battle Encounter: After City Escape Stage Big Foot is a large G.U.N. machine armed with laser cannons and rocket launchers. Its only weak point is its cockpit. As it hovers around the arena firing laser shots at you, run away from it, but run toward it as it turns around. When it lands after turning around a few times, it will unleash a blizzard of missiles. Either wait for them to clear and Homing Attack the cockpit, or Homing Attack the cockpit before it can fire them. Either way, repeating this process a few times will defeat it.

[edit] Boss 2: Dr. Eggman [ First Encounter ]

Boss Battle Encounter: After Wild Canyon Stage When you consider that this fellow is the same Boss as the one fought at the end of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, the difficulty level seems incomparable! The Doctor will run around on the aircraft carrier, occasionally charging toward you as he fires his machine gun. He can also launch slow homing energy balls, which inflict slightly more damage than his machine gun. Rapidly press the B Button to fire as many machine gun shots of your own and the occasional energy ball, and after a few hits the Doctor will be defeated. If you run low on Health, collect any nearby Rings - but be aware that Eggman can do this, too.

[edit] Boss 3: Shadow The Hedgehog [ First Encounter ]

Boss Battle Encounter: After Metal Harbour Stage Well, here we go. The first real conflict between Sonic and his dark adversary. The game never really explains how Sonic somehow managed to transport himself here from Metal Harbour, but nevertheless... The battle requires some good positioning and can become slightly frustrating, but keep at it. The basic idea is to wait until Shadow has used a Homing Attack, then get behind him as he rests and hit him in the back of the head with your own Homing Attack. This can be quite difficult to accomplish, but the battle should be relatively easy with some practice.

[edit] Boss 4: King Boom Boo

Boss Battle Encounter: After Death Chamber Stage Oh, wonderful. A gigantic ghost thing. Well, since Luigi isn't available with his vacuum cleaner, Knuckles will have to deal with this thing himself. King Boom Boo is a tricky opponent. The idea is to run around the loop and get behind him to attack his back when he uses his flaming breath attack. He will turn around and follow you if he is not using this attack. He can also throw fire bombs and occasionally summon the smaller ghosts to assist him. Once behind him, attack him. He will fade himself into the central column and begin to move around it. Go in the OPPOSITE direction to him while clinging to this wall, at his level, and attack him with the B Button when he passes in front of you. He will then fly out and you must chase him down. It has been argued that two, three or even four hits are possible during this time, but you are only supposed to be able to hit him once. He will soon return to his normal state and continue the battle. After four hits, perhaps he'll finally enjoy eternal rest...

[edit] Boss 5: Egg Golem

Boss Battle Encounter: After King Boom Boo Battle Two Bosses, one after the other? This time your opponoent is a 200-foot-tall stone robot. As if that wasn't bad enough, it is capable of gradually destroying the entire arena which you stand on... The Egg Golem will attempt to crush you with its fists. Each fist slam will knock the platforms which it strikes down. After enough hits, a platform will fall away into the quicksand below. If you land there yourself, jump and Homing Attack repeatedly to get out of it and use the "pulley" to get back up to the main arena. The Golem can also spin around with its hands to hit you, and later in the battle it can slam its fists and head down onto the platforms. To defeat it, get around to its back when it has struck, and Homing Attack your way up the platforms and symbols to its "brain". Five hits to the brain will defeat it.

[edit] Boss 6: Rouge The Bat

Funny how the other two Hero/Dark combinations get two fights yet these two only get one. Maybe SEGA didn't want to have too many Male vs. female fights in the game - or maybe they didn't want the love element to die quite as quickly? Anyway, this battle can be quite difficult, since Rouge can freely go virtually anywhere in the arena. And I'm practically certain that she is a lot faster, a lot stronger and a lot more agile here than she is when I'm actually playing as her. Her most dangerous attack is her Drill Drive - she jumps a small distance into the air and comes crashing down on you as heavily as she can. From a great height, this attack is absolutely unpredictable, and, in many cases, unavoidable. She can also unleash her own version of Black Wave - if she does this, she will probably do it several times in a row (she isn't restricted by the Ring Counts, either). Once you collect enough Rings, you can use Thunder Arrow once. When the blast doors open, take the fight to the upper ledges - floating around here is too dangerous. Four hits, and her little Emerald-grabbing game will be over, and you can watch her slip off her ledge toward the lava-filled reactor below...

[edit] Boss 7: Dr. Eggman [ Second Encounter ]

Well, it had to happen, really, didn't it? It's coming up to the end of the game, so a battle with the Doctor is inevitable... The worst thing about this battle is that Eggman's special attacks are random. Laser Missile involves a twin barrage of energy balls, and he also has a rocket launching attack. His third attack is basically a death ray - if you're still in it after the first hit when your inviniciblity wears off, you have about a 20% survival rate. His standard attacks are more powerful than last time, so be careful. The capsules in the centre of the room will explode if you hit them. A few hits will defeat Eggman and avenge Sonic...

[edit] Boss 8: Shadow The Hedgehog [ Second Encounter ]

Boss Battle Encounter: After Final Rush Stage "Ultimate Life-Form" he says? In that case, why does he have the easiest of the three ARK Boss Battles? A simple final battle, this one. Shadow will be dashing along a series of platforms which will fall away if Sonic steps on them. Chase after him and attack him with the Homing Attack. After a couple of hits, he will become more difficult to hit. The strategy is this: run slowly to put some distance between yourself and Shadow, and when he targets you with his Chaos Spear, jump over it, run up to him and Homing Attack him. A total of five hits will defeat him.
