The Death Egg Robot is a giant robot built in Dr. Robotnik's image, and is first seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (16-Bit) as the final boss of the game.
[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Death Egg Robot is the eleventh and final boss in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (16-Bit) and is found in the Death Egg Zone after defeating Silver Sonic. After being chased by Sonic, Dr. Robotnik leaps into the cockpit head of the Death Egg Robot, which is all that is seen at the start of the boss, giving the impression of a small robot. The robot then rises out of the ground to show it's true, giant size. The boss takes a total of 12 hits to defeat.
The robot slowly walks across the stage, swinging it's spiked arms as it walks, making it dangerous to attack. After this he will fly upwards into the air and a homing beacon will appear on Sonic. The Death Egg Robot will then lock-on to Sonic's position and attempted to crush him, after this, if Sonic is in front of the robot, he will either fire off the spiked arms at him, or continue to walk forward. If Sonic is behind him, he will shoot bombs from his back. Because of the spiked arms, the only safe moments to attack the robot are when he is standing still just before leaping into the air, and just after the robot has landed.
When playing as Knuckles in this stage, because Knuckles' jump isn't as high as Sonic's or Tails', the only safe time is after the robot has landed as he crouches as he lands. When the robot is standing still Knuckles can't jump high enough to jump over the spiked hands.
