The Death Egg is a large space station created by Dr. Robotnik and features several times in the series. It is designed in a spherical shape with Dr. Robotnik's face, including moustache and is a nod to the similar-looking Death Star space station from Star Wars.

Death Egg Zone in Sonic 2
The Death Egg first appeared at the end of Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Sonic only explored a small part of the fortress and fought a robotic version of himself and a giant robot based on Dr. Robotnik. Although it appears to be destroyed at the end of the game, it crashes into the ocean.

[edit] Boss Fight

There are 2 bosses to be found in this zone.

[edit] Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Death Egg Zone in Sonic 3 & Knuckles
The plot of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 sees Robotnik attempt to re-float his space station, using the Launch Base Zone on the Angel Island as the launch and reconstruction site. He is stopped by Sonic and it once again crashes to the surface of the planet. Robotnik then makes a second, and successful, attempt to re-float it in Sonic & Knuckles. Towards the end of the Lava Reef Zone the Death Egg can be seen in the sky and is used to scorch the zone.

After fighting Mecha Sonic at the Sky Sanctuary Zone, Sonic and Tails finally are able to enter the Death Egg itself which is, as to be expected, a large mechanised level with several tunnels and routes, filled with dangerous traps. Some tunnels cause Sonic and Tails to be forced to run upside-down, whilst some others are bright, glowing pathways that automatically transport them to the next section.

[edit] Sonic the Fighters

Death Egg II as seen in Sonic the Fighters
In Sonic the Fighters, Robotnik has constructed the Death Egg II. It is generally similar in appearance to the original though apparently a bit smaller. It has several sections branching off from the main component. Their purpose is unknown although it has been suggested they are to mimic the Chaos Emeralds. The successful combatant travels to the Death Egg II and faces Metal Sonic. Beating him, they face Robotnik himself as they attempt to escape. As they escape, the fortress is destroyed.

This Death Egg is split into two sections, Death Egg's Eye where Metal Sonic is faced, and Death Egg's Hangar, where Robotnik is faced.

[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Another Death Egg Mk.II features as the final level in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, however it is different in appearance to that featured in Sonic the Fighters, appearing similar in design to the original Death Egg.

[edit] Other Death Eggs

A Death Egg appears in Sonic Battle when Sonic and Emerl travel there to confront Dr. Eggman. It appears to have powerful weaponry, including a weapon which can destroy star clusters quickly.
