Hey Ho is the first boss in Sonic & Knuckles, the fourteenth when playing as Sonic and Tails in Sonic 3 & Knuckles and the thirteenth when playing as Knuckles in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The boss appears at the end of act 1 of the Mushroom Hill Zone.
This boss is a large flying robot armed with an axe which it uses to chop down trees in the boss area. As Hey Ho chops down the tree, it sends part of the tree trunk flying across the screen. The chunks of wood go horizontally when playing as Sonic and Tails, but bounce around the screen when playing as Knuckles. Additionally, Hey Ho's head also attacks when playing as Knuckles. However, apart from this and the rocket boosters underneath it, the boss is largely vulnerable to attack.
