Hidden Palace Zone

In Sonic canon, there are two Hidden Palace Zones. Despite fan speculation, it is important to note that the Hidden Palaces are in no way connected.

[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog 2

In the beta of Sonic 2, Hidden Palace Zone was a cut level, only half finished. The level features deleted enemies and a supposed Master Emerald, which was acutally a breakable object. More gameplay information can be found at the beta page.

The Hidden Palace in S&K serves as a gateway level between Lava Reef and Sky Sanctuary.

[edit] Sonic's Path

Here, Sonic meets Knuckles, who challenges him to a fist fight. Upon beating Knuckles, it is revealed Knuckles was tricked by Dr. Eggman, as Eggman scoots off with the Master Emerald firmly in his grasp. Knuckles attempts to fight Eggman but ends up electrocuted by Eggman's machine. Tired and beaten, Knuckles leads Sonic to the Sky Sanctuary, where Sonic eventually goes to defeat Eggman on the Death Egg.

Note in the background of the Knuckles battle how there is a mural, depicting the Doomsday Zone at the end of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

[edit] Knuckles' Path

The Hidden Palace for Knuckles serves solely as a filler level for him, as he passes through to grab the portal up to Sky Sanctuary. It is here where Knuckles' game ends- as he faces off a brutal Metal Sonic.
