The Hydrocity Zone is the second zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles and is a vast flooded city full of long, winding paths. After defeating Dr. Robotnik in the Angel Island Zone, Knuckles collapses the bridge Sonic and Tails are standing on, sending them tumbling down into the watery depths.
The zone is filled with various traps and mechanisms, such as spinning platforms, fans to lift you in the air, or send you through flooded tunnels and running platforms which grab onto the player in order to build up extra speed. Obviously, due to the city being flooded, there is the danger of drowning, but air bubbles are littered around the underwater sections.
