These are the items you can get in the game:

[edit] Invincibility

Sonic/Tails will be surrounded by stars and for a few moments be invincible (butyou can still die if you fall to the bottom of the screen or get crushed, so be careful!).

[edit] Lampost

These are checkpoints. Once you run past one and activate it, whenever you die you will restart from that point. They are also used to initiate the special stages to obtain chaos emeralds.

A picture of Sonic/Tails; it gives them an extra life! Sonic's: Tails':

[edit] Power Sneakers

These will allow Sonic/Tails to run faster for a short while.

[edit] Super Ring

This will give you 10 rings.

[edit] Shield

This covers Sonic/Tails in a faint blue shield that protects them from one badnik attack.
