Mighty the Armadillo was a member of the Chaotix and a friend of Sonic, Knuckles, Vector, Charmy Bee and Espio. His first appearance was in the arcade game SegaSonic the Hedgehog alongside Sonic and Ray.
However, Mighty did not re-appear in Sonic Heroes like the rest of the Chaotix group who had also been mostly absent since Knuckles Chaotix. This is generally believed to be due to the fact that the original creator of Mighty, Yusuke Numata, left SEGA and took all copyrights with him.

It was thought by many fans that Mighty was in fact one of the original prototypes for Sonic, due to their similar shape and general appearance.

Mighty appears alongside the rest of the Chaotix in both the Archie Comics and Sonic the Comic continuities. In the Archie storyline, Mighty was born into a family of thieves who were later imprisoned due to their crimes, although Mighty was largely unaware of their wrongdoings due to his age. He later sort a way to free himself and his family and made a deal with Mammoth Mogul to gain super strength. Whilst he managed to escape, he could not save his parents and, later on, joined up with the rest of the Chaotix.
In the Sonic the Comic storyline Mighty is the strongest member of the Chaotix and often bickers with Espio. His father is Blockhead Bill, an elderly and now senile, superhero who often gets into trouble.
