Rouge is a secret agent and treasure hunter. She it one of GUNs top agents and often works undercover infiltrating Eggman's defenses. She is also a well known treasure hunter, finding all kinds of lost treasures, striking deals with people who need a job done, or stealing whatever she can find.

[edit] Sonic Adventure 2/Battle

In this game Rouge starts off in an argument with Knuckles the echidna. She is attempting to take the Master Emerald for herself on the grounds that all jewels belong to her. In the middle of the argument Eggman arrives and takes the emerald. In response Knuckles shatters it. She then begins to collect shards of the emerald in hopes of restoring it. Partway through the story she joins forces with Eggman and Shadow. She is given a mission to steal three chaos emeralds from GUN while Eggman distracts the base and Shadow plants detonators to destroy the island. Rouge collects the emeralds but gets trapped inside a vault. Shadow appears and rescues her and the chaos emeralds. He uses chaos control to take them to Space Colony ARK. She then continues to search for emerald shards but we also find out that she is collecting information about Eggman, Shadow, and theirs plans. While Eggman was busy she hacks the system to look for information, but while she does Shadows shows up and catches her. Shadow threatens her and in retaliation she questions him, because she finds claims that he can't be the real Shadow because the pod he was launched out of was never found. During Shadows confusion she manages to keep her cover, and heads out to find the rest of the Master Emerald, when she does she meets up with Knuckles again. The two get into a fight on a meteor. They fight and Knuckles wins, knocking her off the edge. as she starts falling Knuckles catches her and saves her life. She then gives him her emerald shards and leaves.

Following the events of Sonic Adventure 2, Rouge raids Eggman's base, believing he found Shadow after his fall in Sonic Adventure 2. Breaking into one of his storage rooms she finds Shadow in a storage pod, but as reawakenings him, she accidentally activates E-123 Omega, who was placed there to guard the facility, sparking a fight which she breaks apart. She then convinces the two of them to work together and they form a team. They work through the game going through its various levels and attacking Eggman. After helping to fight against Metal Sonic, they examine Eggman's base and find he has made thousands of Shadow clones.

In Sonic X, she was caught in a trap intended to catch Sonic. G.U.N. planted a fake Chaos Emerald to lure him. However, Rouge got there first and was promptly arrested. It was offered to drop the charges if she agreed to spy for them. She agreed, knowing this would grant her unprecedented access to the Chaos Emeralds.
