SegaSonic the Hedgehog, also known as Sonic Arcade, Sonic the Arcade, and SEGASONIC Arcade, is an arcade-based Sonic game released in both Japan and Europe in 1993.
SegaSonic was the first outing based off of the original Sonic The Hedgehog, debuting Sonic and two new characters: Ray The Flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo. In-gamewise, all three characters feature similar controls and abilities.
The storyline depicts Sonic, Ray and Mighty being kidnapped by the evil Dr. Eggman, and must escape for their lives from Eggman Island, while navigating through a series of deadly traps at the control of Eggman.
SegaSonic the Hedgehog was originally set to be a featured game in Sonic Gems Collection, but was excluded due to the original game being controlled by a trackball.
[edit] Gameplay
The object of the game is to maneuver through an isometric-styled sequence of levels, avoiding death. Players must get passed a series of threats including massive boulders, lava flows, rogue gears, falling stalactites, and others. A health bar is implanted on the screen as a part of the HUD, depicting how much health the player currently has. The bar will gradually decrease when the player receives damage, which can be replenished by collecting rings.
