Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing is a kart racing game released across several platforms. As the name suggests, several Sonic characters feature, alongside other characters from various SEGA franchises.

The game plays as a typical kart racing game with players competing in races whilst collecting power-ups and weapons along the way. The tracks are themed on various SEGA games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Jet Set Radio and The House of the Dead. The background music is also in-game music from various SEGA games. As the player races they earn "SEGA Miles" which can be used in-game to purchase new characters, tracks and background music.

  • Ryo Hazuki with Forklift - Originally a pre-order bonus in Europe, it later became available to download from April 1st 2010
  • Metal Sonic - Available to download from April 8th 2010 (360) and April 22nd 2010 (PS3). Also included in the download pack was a new Death Egg themed track.

[edit] Proposed Characters

Other characters that were known to be considered for the roster but didn't make it into the full game are:

  • Toejam and Earl - From the game series of the same name, SEGA and Toejam and Earl Productions could not come to an agreement over terms.
  • Gillius Thunderhead - From Golden Axe. He was originally seen riding a Chicken Leg in prototypes for the game but didn't make the final cut.
  • Segata Sanshiro - From the Japanese series of Saturn adverts, he was said to be riding a giant Sega Saturn but didn't make the final cut.
  • Mario - From the Mario series of games, he is said to have been excluded to prevent confusion between the SEGA All-Stars series of games and the Mario & Sonic series of games.

Also worthy of note was that NiGHTS from the NiGHTS into Dreams series of games was included as the games flagman after a fan campaign to the games developers to have a NiGHTS character included.
