Sonic 3D Blast, known as Sonic 3D: Flickies Island in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and simply as Sonic 3D in Japan, is the 6th and last Sonic game released for the SEGA Mega Drive. It was soon after ported to the SEGA Saturn after the cancellation of Sonic X-Treme. The Saturn version featured a new 3D FMV intro and an entirely new Special Zone. Additionally, the Mega Drive version was never released in Japan.

After the initial Saturn port, the game was further ported to the PC and Nintendo Wii Virtual Console and collected within the following compilations:

[edit] Storyline

Dr. Robotnik has been kidnapping all the Flicky birds on the island to power his robots, so Sonic takes it upon himself to set them free. Tails and Knuckles also appear in the game but aren't playable and finding them hidden in the zones leads Sonic to the Special Zone.

[edit] Information

Unlike previous Sonic platform games Sonic 3D is presented in an isometric viewpoint, 2.5D, as opposed to the standard 2D display. Additionally, rather than using starposts or big rings to warp to the Special Zone, Sonic must find either Tails or Knuckles hidden within the zones and, if they have over 50 rings, will then be sent to the Special Zone.
