Sonic Heroes is a video game in the Sonic series, released for Gamecube, PlayStation 2, PC and Xbox. It is also the first Sonic game to ever be released on a Sony console or a Microsoft console. It features team based gameplay, each team is controlled with three characters with three main skills, speed, flight and power.. Each team goes with it's own difficulty setting, Team Rose being easy, Team Sonic being normal, Team Dark being hard and Team Chaotix being a variety of the other three.

This is the first time Charmy, Espio and Vector have been seen in a console game since Knuckles Chaotix.

Each team has a special attack known as Team Blast which destroys all enemies on screen, or deals large amounts of damage to bosses. Additionally, each team has their own unique effect when using the blast. The Team Blast is activated by filling the Team Blast gauge which is filled by collecting rings, destroying enemies, or finding a Team Blast box.

Team Sonics Team Blast special effect causes damage to enemies, either destroying or stunning them.

Team Dark's Team Blast special effect is the ability to stop time for 10 seconds.

Team Rose's Team Blast special effect is a shield and temporary invincibility.

Team Chaotix's Team Blast special effect is being rewarded an amount of rings based on how many enemies have been destroyed in the level.
