Yuji Naka

Yuji Naka, head of the current Sonic Team and development studio PROPE, is a Japanese computer programmer and video game designer. Naka was born in 1965.

[edit] Background

After his high school graduation, Yuji Naka decided against university and remain in his hometown of Osaka, working various indispensable jobs. After leaving his last job, he had applied for an interview at Sega after seeing a wanted ad for programming assistants. Yuji was soon hired and was appointed to work on a game titled Girl's Garden, receiving great notations for his outstanding work on it. Yuji developed the soon-to-be-popular Sonic The Hedgehog, while his partner Naoto Oshima designed the characters, and Hirokazu Yasuhara planning the levels. Apart from Sonic the Hedgehog, Yuji Naka had planned other notable video games such as Nights into Dreams..., Burning Rangers, Phantasy Star Online, and the EyeToy hit Sega SuperStars.

[edit] Making progress

During the winter of 2006, Naka had stated that he aimed to form his own game studio, sovereign from Sega and the Sonic Team, bearing a resemblance to his Sega exodus and creation of the game developing company Artoon.

Naka also created an NES emulator for the Sega Game Gear, but was not released due to legal reasons.
