The zone is a large, industrialised city and Dr. Robotnik's main base of operations in the 2 games. As to be expected, the zone is full or a vast range of dangerous traps such as pipes spewing fire, electrified beacons and large saws. There are also treadmills to slow down Sonic's progress, aswell as tunnels connecting areas together. Originally, the zone was named Clock Work Zone.

[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog (16-Bit)

Scrap Brain Zone, Act 3
In Sonic the Hedgehog (16-Bit) this is the 6th zone in the game, and, unlike all the other levels in the game, doesn't contain a boss. At the end of the 2nd act, Dr. Robotnik is waiting, but is hidden behind a wall where he activates a switch that destroys the floor, sending Sonic down into Act 3. The 3rd act of the level is very much like the design of the Labyrinth Zone, suggesting that, in terms of location on the map, the Labyrinth Zone and Scrap Brain Zone are next to each other. Instead of water, a purple liquid floods the level.

There is no boss for the Scrap Brain Zone.

[edit] Badniks

With the exception of Ballhog, all the other badniks appear in previous zones in the game.

[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog (8-Bit)

In Sonic the Hedgehog (8-Bit), this is the 5th zone in the game and, like the 16-Bit version, doesn't contain a boss at the end of act 3. The design is the same as the 16-Bit version, except that it doesn't contain the Labyrinth Zone styled act 3. There is a maze section where Sonic must activate several switches and go through tunnels to find his way out. At the end of the 3rd act, Dr. Robotnik is waiting, but escapes up to the Sky Base Zone. The Chaos Emerald is located in the 2nd act of the zone.

[edit] Sonic Drift

Scrap Brain Zone in Sonic Drift
Scrap Brain Zone, along with all other zones from Sonic the Hedgehog (16-Bit) appear as race tracks in Sonic Drift. Whilst the race tracks themselves are largely sparse, the background in the distance and the map above the track screen shows more clearly which zone the track is based on.
