Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-Bit)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the second game to be released for the SEGA Master System and shortly afterwards for the Game Gear. Like the Mega Drive edition of Sonic 2 this game introduces Tails for the first time, but unlike the Mega Drive version, Tails is not playable. The player can only control Sonic.
In 2008 the game was ported for the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console, 3DS, and the game was also included in the following compilations or as an unlockable bonus:
- Sonic Adventure DX for the Nintendo Gamecube and PC.
- Sonic Gems Collection for Nintendo Gamecube and Sony Playstation 2.
After defeating Dr. Robotnik in the events of Sonic the Hedgehog, peace returns to South Island. However, it's not long before Dr Robotnik kidnaps Tails and will only release him in exchange for the six Chaos Emeralds, sending Sonic off in search of them across Mobius.
The game is split across seven zones where, unlike the 16-Bit versions, the chaos emeralds are hidden within the zone itself in Act 2. Failure to collect the first 5 chaos emeralds means the player will not collect the 6th from the Metal Sonic boss and face Dr. Robotnik at the end of the final zone and get the true ending.
- Under Ground Zone
- Sky High Zone
- Aqua Lake Zone
- Green Hills Zone
- Gimmick Mountain Zone
- Scrambled Egg Zone
- Crystal Egg Zone
- Doodlebug Mecha
- Goose Mecha
- Mecha Sea Lion
- Mecha Pig
- Inobuta Mecha
- Silver Sonic
- Crystal Egg Zone Boss
